Last Patrol volunteers honored the service of James Turnage, a WWII Merchant Marines & Korean Navy veteran in hospice care.
James was born in Spartanburg, SC, and graduated from Spartanburg High School where he played football.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1944-1946; and the Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1953.
James was self employed as a roofing contractor until his retirement at the age of 80. He married his wife, Joan, in 1950 while serving in the Navy, and Joan was in nursing school at Grady Hospital in Atlanta Georgia. They were married for 70 years and raised their 3 children. He is a member of Second Presbyterian Church and served as a leader. He is an ordained elder of the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for 50+ years.
